Prelude to Perth

It all started in May this year. Work in the first quarter of the year was rather slow, always had been that way for us in the project team. The sales people would normally lock the deal by mid March and the start of the project implementation cycle would be in April or May. This would be the times when I’d be running around like a mad person, ever so ready to shoot at who ever gets in the way. Well, it’s not easy when clients are from high profile companies. We are to ensure that all work comply to their processes and procedures. And because they are the paymasters too, their demands can really make any Project Manager go up the wall.

Being burnt out by May was not a good sign, not when there was still a long way to go till year end. Undoubtedly, I had to figure out a way to boost my spirits in order to make me more productive with my outputs. To make matters worse, the home front wasn’t smooth sailing either. My teenage girl was giving me multiples of splitting headaches on school, friends and the list was so long that I don’t even want to recollect about it anymore. At times during my Tahajjud I’d feel so empty and I often wondered where exactly I was heading, both with work and family.

More often than not, a good retail therapy would be my usual remedy to the mounting stress. I did retail therapy in Hanoi with my two close friends in April and yet the remorse feeling did not fade. Work is the least of my worry, it was the family bit that was very much of my concern.

I knew by then, that this wasn’t the time to run away from the pressing matters. We just had to get our acts back on track. Both ABE’s and my parenting skills were tested to the max, affirming the right from the wrong, compromising some of our preset family rules. It wasn’t easy, but Alhamdulillah we managed to overcome these tested times. And for these reasons too, the year end trip to Perth has indeed become more significant to each us all.

Hope you'll be able to share the jubilance of our trip through the upcoming postings, for it was definitely a memorable experience for all of us.

Kay, sometimes only Allah knows what we go through..what we have to face up to to be on track - on the home front and at work. Alhamdulillah, the Perth trip is indeed a much needed one.

Dear Kak Teh,

Yes, indeed He knows best. At times we are tested of our faith and strength. This is only the ujian di dunia, apa lagi di sana nanti.

It feels good to have things aligned again and in Him I berserah and redha.
