Such Arrogance

I'm not a morning person; most people know that. I'd perform my subuh prayers and then I'll go into slumber again. Not good I know, in fact it's one bad habit I really need to kick off. My staff knows that if I have my choice, I wouldn't schedule meetings or appointments anytime before 10am.

Anyway, not everything can go my way. Just my luck that in the next two weeks, I'd have to be an early bird. Reason? Simple - I have to do cross state driving, from home in Shah Alam to event place in Ampang. Distance never mind. But the crawl i DO mind.

I left the house at about 7.20 this morning. Head towards NKVE and was greeted by throngs of vehicles of different shapes and sizes. Amongst the very many single occupancy cars, there are also back hoes, tractors, lori bawak kereta, oil tankers and trailers ala-ala yang dalam citer BJ & the Bear. Kenapa lah mesti sama nak berebut jalan masa tu jugak? Can't you guys like start later, say around 10 or 11 ker?

How ah? No government department wants to make a kajian of this ke? Kaji...dan kaji...dan kaji lagi. Conclusion dia in the end...ummppp, is not shared publicly anyway, antara mereka dan gang-gang mereka je yang tahu. In the mean time, we have to continue being patient and brave ourselves through the horrendous KL crawl.

Anyway, this entry is not about the infamous KL crawl nor brawl should you become unlucky to bump into road bullies etc.

Okay, if it's not about traffic jam, what is it about then??

Patience, folks...it's about patience.

You see after a longggg day at work, and after braving such hideous snail speed traffic in KL TWICE today (once in the morning and then again on the way home), all I needed was some jerk honking violently at us in the car, when we waited in the almost chocked road, to fetch Farah from her tuition class. Not only we were honked, the driver even came out of his "me-don't-really-care-what-mata-or-class car" and shouted at us to move our car. Yar...yar just because you drive a fancy one, you now have the license to be a bully?? Ohhh melampau dah ni...grrr.

Mind you, this wasn't my first time seeing such rotten behaviour. And yang "berlagak" (as much as I hate to use this word, I can't help it, it's the most apt) ni selalu nya adalah orang of my own skin colour jugak. Affluent (of coz lar affluent kan, sebab dapat project millions, duit buat apa dulu??? Beli luxury cars duluuuu) , successful (of coz lar coz project pun project surat wahyu) , but perangai macam...beep, beep...

Hey...don't get me wrong. I'm not envious of them. It's their rezeki, good for them.

It saddens me but this is what's happening in this city - Shah Alam, where one would definitely stumble upon the breed of these "new Malays" at almost every corner in the street - posh cars, money to splash (so it seems lah) and totally disastrous fashion sense. Such annoying arrogance!!

I recall many, many years back when we first set foot in Shah Alam, the city was quiet and all so peaceful. Drivers behaved in orderly manner, flora and fauna untouched and there was peace and harmony at heart, everytime you come home from a day's hard life in the office.

Regretfully, the present is the opposite; rasa macam sesak nafas je, nak-nak when encountering people yang don't know how to uphold good moral and values nih...grrr.

Is this the price we pay for development? And our people have become such heartless souls? I don't want to provide answers to these questions, coz I already knew what they are :(

These nouveau riche are the same no matter where they are or where they come from.
In terms of traffic decorum, here in Norway it is considered rude to honk. You just don't do it unless it is really an emergency situation.

Dear Aunty Kay,
Meh sini...mak kita gi kerja selalu jalan kaki je. Jangan jeles tau! That's why Dad is her chaffeur whenever she's back in your neck of the woods. Tak kuasa mak, that's what she said. As for those "people"...hmmmm....tong kosong macam tulah. purrr....meow!

Hey Kay, perangai macam…beep, beep…Is that from the Road Runner or Wile E Coyote (the road rager)?..hahaha.

I’m with u there on people ‘with totally disastrous fashion sense’. Don’t these people realise, it’s either u have it or u don’t, the finesse that oozes out from someone with class, someone who behaves with humility are more beautiful & it doesn’t matter how simple they r dressed up.

I totally agree with my buddie Naz (giggles) about those nouveau riche. But the different, sad to say in Asian society, we (or most general rakyat) ‘kow-tow’ to these people whereas in orang putih society, these sort of arrogance behaviour are harshly criticised & shot down in open. That is why even the most successful and beautiful omputih are eager to proclaim how ordinary they are. This egalitarian social system of theirs, is what makes their society appear so casual & appealing.

So Kay, don’t forget your helmet & baseball bat each time u go on the road….hahaha. Macam tu fun-fair bumpy cars track :)

Cheers,

Tommy, your knight in shiny Armani ;))

hi puan kay.
lama tak drop comment kat sini. most of the time, i would always prefer being ur silent reader, tapi harini nak luahkan jugaklah my point of view.

my dad always said, "kat south africa, ada certain tempat yg tak pakai traffic light pun. the people respect each other and they take turn at the junctions peacefully."

hmm kalau kat msia, specifically in KL takde traffic light, alamatnya parahlah. semua org nak tunjuk hero.

tapi yg ain perasan, most of the rude drivers mesti yg drive you-know-the-huge-almost-half(or more)-a-million-ringgit-priced-cars. why why?

they might be driving a huge and expensive car, but they really have a small and cheap brain inside their skull.

-ain, fun in english camp 2008.

Dear Naz,

I first practiced my driving skills to its fullest in the States during those student days. And the one thing hard coded in my mind even till now is NEVER HONK unless it's a matter of life and death. Be prepared to receive wicked stares from others if one even dares to make a sound with the honk.

Unfortunately here, honking seems to be a kind of punishment which if not careful, could spark arguments later. Lambat move at the traffic light, nak honk. Lambat reverse car from parking nak honk. Uhhh.....!!!

I usually avoid confrontations, but push comes to shove, hey....I can show my fangs too. Just watch me bite...grrr.

Dear CatIS,

Ohhhh...I miss walking in yr country. Did so much of that during my visits there. As you walk, you stop to smell the roses and watch the birds. And it gives you some kind of a therapy, kan?

Kat sini haaaa, hai jangan nak membahayakan diri sendiri nak berjalan ke tempat kerja, okay. Your Mama is so, so smart, to get Daddy drive her around. But she must always tell Daddy to keep cool okay. Kalau tak yr Daddy pun boleh sakit tekak screaming at these jerks on the road...grrr.

Dear Kak Puteri,

Kaya harta nya pun tak seberapa, budi bahasa entah dimana letaknya. Malu nak bila tengok masing-masing behaving rotten. Padahal satu qariah masjid tu. Silap-silap dalam saf solat, sebelah-sebelah. All it needs is just a little patience, and tak jadi lah masam-masam muka.

Must tell these people lah, life is short, go smell the roses, go chill.

Kak kay dear,

Snjg career saya yg cabuk ni, sy telah membuat rumusan bahawa orng2 kaya d shah alam ada 2 kategory:-

1, kaya, profesional, beriman dan baik budi bahasa, kadang2 datin pun pakai track bottom pi beli barang kat tesco , tudung biru, baju oren tak relevant lnsng, but drive a brand new beamer bersiri2 or merc berkilat

But original orng shah alam adalah elitis melayu yg berbudi bahasa, kalau yg hangsuah tu mesti baru pindah mai or saja2 beli barang kat kompleks pkns.

Bukan people in SA, the very cultured and coutered ones? Ini sure jarang jarang sekali pick up the kids from tuition. Anyway I think our 1st lady should promote pemandu berhemah se tegar she promote Permata Hatiku. But very unlikely lah kan, kan,...

kay_leeda said...

Dear Zai,

In Seremban too? What's becoming of our world today? If kids at young are snobbish, what will become of them when they grow older? sigh...sigh...sigh...

kay_leeda said...

Dear Bro Tommy,

Ohhh you are such a wise man. Beep...beep of the Road Runner huh? Don't you just wanna smack him every time he goes by?

MatSalleh wanting to be ordinary and us Asians are screaming to be heard, very true too. I was in a seminar once when a local speaker insisted that we addressed her as Doctor X-Y-Z just because she has a PhD. Ohhh purlezzee...the MatSalleh (who also has a PhD) seated next to her was more comfortable with our on first names. So how???

One of these days, I'll really bring out that baseball bat, and start showing them my swinging sensations!!

kay_leeda said...

And Tommy, shinny Armani as in bling bling that could be spotted from a distance? Cool bro, really cool :)

Slip on your dancing shoes my friend and let's boogie!!

kay_leeda said...

Dear Ain,

Ohh long time no see, wondered where you went :) This is really nice of you to drop by, do come again.

Ohhh what your dad said is so true. In most Western countries traffic lights are usually found at the main streets. At smaller roads, very rare we find traffic lights at junctions. Drivers know when is his turn to pass, no accidents no nothing. Cuba buat macam tu kat sini, silap-silap bertumbuk kat tepi jalan tu!!

kay_leeda said...

Dear Desert Rose,

I was hoping for you to drop by and memberi kata-kata hikmah mu itu. Yes betol your observations tu. Anyway, cantik gak at times bila baju, tudung, pants & shoes semua tak match & coordinated tu *wink*

Entah lah..at times, rasa nak lari jek balik kampung kek Kolopilah tu. Akan tetapi bila memikirkan yang tempat itu adalah sangat jauh dari tempat favourite bershopping, harus ku shove saja idea murni itu.

What to do lorrr...now I have to tahan, sabar & pasrahsaja lah perangai hampeh org-org yang sedikit tidak betol adap sopan nya ni. Hishhhh.....

kay_leeda said...

Dear TM,

Cultured & coutured? Kalau they hail dari set-set yg makan tempe bagi muka cantik tu, cultured tang mana??

1st lady to promote kaedah memandu berhemah? Kachinggg...good project with good money tu. Go whisper at her ear lah, sure she game.

Cat-from-Sydney said...

Aunty Kay,
Kita pun makan tempe tau! Sbb tu kita cantik...soybean GM ni baguih! har har har
Anyway, nak cerita, dulu2 my Mama said she pernahlah in the same situation as you. You know...the honking and bahasa yg tak ketahuan tu. Know what she did? When the guy said, "Awak ingat ni jalan bapak awak ke?" My Mama dgn selambanya said, "Memanglah. Tengok nama jalan tu - Jalan Dato' XXXX. Dia tu memang bapak saya." The look on that fella's face? Priceless. har har har *evil laughs*

KG said...

sabar jelah Kay, i pun kena honk this morning...i hv to take tt road every day!

Tommy Yewfigure said...

No lah Kay, I'm just your average down to earth, not a loud bling2 type of fella. You know, the kind that fly under the radar, MYOB type. The one that goes around with his 501 straight leg/boot cut & your 'fruit of loom' plain dyed cotton T-Shirt + blazer with sneakers. The one that girls always like to steal a second look with the corner of their eyes..........muahaha...macam gua perasan atau hanya syiok sendiri aje :))

Cheers & have a great weekend!

Dear Cik Puan Kamil,

Shah Alam now...perghhh adalah macam PJ yg tak menjadi. Roads are small, and people parking sesuka hati je. Many of my friends who were here since the early 80s ramai yg dah move away. Ohhh...apakah message nya itu?? Harus kah ku move away juga?

kay_leeda said...

Dear MrsN,

Ohhh yes..."this group" is so berlagak. Tak larat lah tengok they all.
