Flower Girls and Palm

My mobile rang for quite a while before I finally answered the call. It was my aunty on the other end.

“How old is your little girl?” she asked.

“Err…Nissa is going to be eight in March.” I replied. “Napa aunty?”

“Tak de lah….I’d like to make her as one of the flower girls for Along’s wedding,” she further rendered.

Kek lapis - one of the hantaran at my cousin's engagement last Dec.

A few more questions followed suit and when the conversation ended, I have somehow given my consent to be one of the coordinators at her son, my cousin’s wedding this March. My task (as at now, I’m sure when the day draws closer, there will be other assignments) is to oversee the flower girls – three of them, Nissa, TM’s girl Alina and another cousin’s daughter, Baby (can’t recall what’s her actual name, sorry lah babe, aunty ni dah tua, pelupa sangat these days).

My uncle, in pinkish reddish baju melayu during the merisik-meminang act

Errr…what have I done??? Ni lah, main selamba je agree and now ada portfolio pulak dah. I tell myself, tak pe lah, what are families for kan? If none other than to extend a helping hand.

The first assigned task is to look into the tailoring of the flower girls’ dresses. My aunt, Datin R, has given me a sketch of how the dress is to look like, to be sent for tailoring, using the lace and satin silk materials she got for the three girls. Okay, that would be easy, I thought as I’d just need to get the girls’ measurements and send the kains, plus the design to my tailor. Then I remembered, it will be Chinese New Year in about 9 days. Gosh…the kains and what nots have to go out to Tay, the tailor a.s.a.p, like this weekend for sure!!

The next question put to me when I collected the materials from her house last week was, “Can you do the beading for the girls’ dresses?”

A couple of “errrr…”, “ahhhh…” of unconvincing sounds of refusal, and responding as if cat got my tongue, I ended up giving an affirmative answer.

‘Err…boleh, boleh lah kot,” I responded. Again, I just didn’t have the heart to say no, and this was the least I could do for her. Tapi dalam hati dok berkata-kata…hai when am I ever going to find time to do this beading work?? Well, I guess if there is a will there’s always a way.

With my schedule already going topsy turvy (and not to mention the procrastinator that I am), I’d better get myself organized in getting this task done. It may seem trivial, but with all that’s going to happen in these weeks to come, I don’t want to end up juling-juling doing the beading on the very last minute.

So, last night while waiting for my girls at Kumon, after a good hearty curry laksa at a kopitiam in SA Mall, I set a timeline in my PDA, siap letak alarm lagi to remind me of the important check points to this task. Fuhh…ini baru cousin’s wedding, I can’t imagine what my PDA would be like, when the time comes for me to handle the planning and preparations of my children’s weddings. I bet you this old and faithful aide of mine would be filled with to do tasks, arranged in the order of importance and urgency, colour coded differently representing the different check points and timelines, and alarms set to go off at frantic and frenzied intervals.

OMG…will you, Palm be able to take the exertion??? Most of all, would Kay herself be able to endure the stress??? Err…think I’ll cross the bridge when the time comes.

Dear Kay
Yup, you better start the beading slowly. Otherwise it will be burning the midnight oit menjuling menjahit. First Along, then Ayang. Looking at how the pace went at the engagement, sure we will be busy for these 2 weddings.

The only way to stop future genocide is to fight back our way. The cowards use drones and missiles. No suicide bombs. Use snipers and hitmans. Pay them to kill their ambassadors and their families, their company ceos and their families. They kill our children. List down the numbers they have kill and we try to reach that number. An eye to an eye. Hit them anywhere in this world, from Brazil to Mongolia.

Kay,

When is the wedding? Good idea to set the milestones in your PDA for constant reminder. Bagus jugak gain the experience ni, Kay. Soon you will be an expert by the time it comes to managing your own children's weddings. :-)

Good luck with the beading work!

W'lily,

I am one person who rarely says NO to others. Tak sampai hati. Well, it's their day today and you'll never know esok lusa our day pulak kan, and we may just need that extra favour from someone, somewhere. Tapi when banyak sangat say YES, eerrrr...diri sendiri, takut. Can I or can I not carry out the task.

Yes, I do bead work, just for the fun of it. Take orders? Well, unless you don't mind waiting..heh...heh. You can click on the link, it's working :)

Dear Mamasita,

Off late I've been diketengahan to help out with family weddings. I guess, sooner or later, memang have to start getting familiar with these wedding thingy.

Getting things done under pressure, well, penat daa...but when push comes to shove, buat je and harap-harap menjadi lah :)

Wedding planner, sikit-sikit boleh lah. I'm still far fetched from the infamous Pak Abu's standards daa :)

Ohh..yes, pics of flower girls will be shared later. Tunggguuuu yah :)

Dear TM,

I'm going to be smarter at doing the beading this time. No last minute job, no way..!!

I've got some ideas on what beading designs to do on the girls' dresses. Am thinking of a design fashionable during Twiggy's era. The dress can recycle mah, to be worn at the other weddings..heh...heh.

Komen Pak Malim kucing ray yg alim.

Can I be a flower girl? asks the cat who talks like a girl.

Kak Teh,

Heh..heh...long time since I heard the word eezy pizzy :)

Me don't have any powersuit lah Kak Teh. It's the excitement that gets me going I must say, excited to doll up the girls. Plus this will be good experience and is definitely a learning process for me.

Dear Anon@6.47,

Yes, we hear you. But going around killing more innocent people doesn't make us any better than them. There is already enough suffering, let's not add on to it.

Peace, no war okay.

Kak Ezza,

Thanks for the cheer!! You are so right Kak, majlis orang, kita tompang meraikan dan memeriahkan. Anak-anak dah excited and so are we, the mothers. Nak buat camno.... :)

Tai Tai,

The wedding is on 15th March. Not far from now plus we (both TM & I) have another nephew who is getting married this Feb. Guess, we have come to that stage now, where the kids are big and old enough to tie the knot.

Yes, being involved in the preparation will provide me with the hands-on experience and what is required to know about planning and organizing weddings in the near future :)

i love to do this menghias pelamin and what not. Not that I am good but the inclination to such things ada kuat sikit hehehe. 9 years ago when my subordinate got married, i helped her decorating the room. and it was superb, perasanlah tu, lagi lah pulak semua orang kata, wah baiknya boss sampai ambik cuti tolong buatkan. Actually i treat her like my own sister.. itu yang tolong tu and she is the only girl in the family and tak ada saudara lain..kesian jugakkan.

kay_leeda said...

Ummi,

Heh..heh..after this we all know where to look for penghias bilik pengantin, yes!!

I like doing all these, but TIME yg menjadi FEAR factor nyer. Too many side track activities, yg shopping nyer, yg agenda bersukaria nyer..hai...sigh.
