AMoT Launch

Once upon time not that long ago, while doing a research on Terengganu, Google brought me to a blog called “Kecek-Kecek”. I scanned through the writings in Kecek-Kecek and book-marked it for easy access later. The blog world was still so foreign to me then.

I continued being a silent reader, never dared leaving any cyber foot prints due to my limited knowledge on the subject matter itself. But I continued to follow postings of blog. Later when I started Sembang, “Kecek-Kecek” was permanently linked in my blog.

So that was how it started, my trailing of Awang Goneng - the blog owner and writer of Kecek-Kecek.

When I received the invite from Kak Teh (the very beautiful wife of Wan Ahmad Hulaimi aka Awang Goneng) to the launch of A Map of Terengganu AMoT, I was elated. AMoT is AG’s latest book after his brilliant success on Growing Up in Terengganu GUiT.

The event was held at RA Fine Arts Gallery in Solaris Dutamas (yes….like many others we got lost too!) last Sunday. It was a wonderful do – a delightful event attended by so many who’s who in the industry.

AG reading a short chapter from AMoT

Moi with Andre Goh!! He mentioned that he was the Bakat TV Champion in 1972. I told him I was only 8 then....

The man needs no introduction. Dato Jimmy Choo was at the AMoT launch too.

Book signing by AG

Congratulations to AG :)) and Kak Teh and all the great people of AMoT

When MCBs Meet.....

During the last MCB – Mak Cik Blogger meet I came sans my ole and faithful camera. Hence, no pictures to flaunt here in the blog. Fearing the repeat would happen, just before I left home for another MCB meet last Sunday, I took extra effort to ensure the lil’ device had its battery fully charged and nicely tucked in my handbag. All geared, my noble intention was to capture as many great moments as I could.

But then after arriving at Kak Puteri Kamaliah’s place, after the ooooossssss…..ahhhhh….hiiiii….ohhhhhhhh picture taking didn’t seem that important anymore. All I could say was this – it was a great feeling being in the company of such admirable ladies – Kak Puteri (our gracious host ), Kak Teh (our guest of honor all the way from London), Kak Nana (you look greattttttt!!!), Zendra (if only I could be slim and tall like you!!), Mamasita (love you…love you darling!!), Sab (we definitely have similar stories of the other halves!!), Kak Ezza (whose hug was so, so motherly), Zai (hope I didn’t confuse you with the way I gave directions!!), Yani KG (your macaroons....ooooooo), Zaimah (yesss…my worigh whose travel boots take her everywhere), Wan Shana (whose yummylicious dalca saved my Lebanese rice), Emylia (if only I could eat like you and nothing happens to me!!), Aida (whose intro was well said in one breath!!), Dee (a lady who’s so gracious and so calm), Jannah (Mamasita’s eldest – so pretty like Mommy!!), Ollie (finally get to meet you after reading the exchanges in FB).

To all…thank you ....thank you…thank you for an awesome evening :)

Ahhh...you are finally here Zen!!!

Kak Nana, Kak Teh, Mamasita & Jannah all so attentive listening to Yaya's fluent lines on how we communicate.

Desserts.....all the way from Tanjung Lumpur, Kuantan

More food....will not say how many of those murtabak I walloped

RoCk ALL nItE

Last weekend was full of excitement. It kicked off with the company's "Rock With Stars" dinner on Friday night. Everyone was nervous; though not many wanted to admit it. Well, rock is not everyone's forte and trying to be one was even more difficult.

So what was my rock attire???

I tried a few different attires before settling with some thing I was most comfortable in. Did costume cat walk in front of Nissa - doing top and bottom mix & match. After rummaging the wardrobe, I finally settled with a black top, my bling, bling jeans, a black trench coat to add the final touch, plus some accessories to enhance the look.

Nissa asked me, "Tang mana rock nya?"

I said, "Rock is when I am comfortable," as I slip into Farah's black 5" high heel platforms. Fuhh...it's been a while since I last slipped into these hell heels. But nak gaya punya pasal, pakai jugak lah....

The dinner was great, food was good. And everyone had a superb time. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Attentively listening to Dato EC's kick off speech - directions, hopes and aspirations for 2011.

Almost makan time!! Harleys making entrance just as dinner was to be served.

In house rockers took centre stage entertaining the audience. Not bad!!

Yeahhh.....yeahhhh here comes Awie!!! And that got everyone crazy...

Awie in action

Abang guitarist also in action.....Tak tau siapa nama dia...errr me bukan ler kenal sangat dgn mamat-mamat rockers ni pun.

The crowd went right to the front of the stage...kat table tinggal bosses yg control cool....

Tak cool lah tengok rock concert duduk kat meja kan....by the second song, I found myself in front the stage dengan budak-budak lain (ala-ala control ayu gitu tapi kegedikkan sungguh lah obvious kan...!!)

With Kartini - the Queen of Rock that night - a colleague of mine :)

Last but not least, rock ker???

What a Lunch!!

Edgy was the feeling in me when I saw my watch ticking towards midday. Janji nak jemput Kak Ezza and Desert Rose at the Subang Jaya commuter station around noon. I'm gonna be late, and goshhh....I hate making people wait. Very quickly I called Desert Rose to inform I've just left the office and I would be there in a little while.

Today's event was something we have been looking forward to all week. Yesss....Datin Mamasita had asked us to have lunch with her at TV3. Datin has been coming down to KL for the last two weeks for her Pahang Art Exhibition show. Isshhhh rezeki kan, tak kan nak tolak.

Mamasita's camera yang memory card nya came later

When we arrived at Sri Pentas, Mamasita was already there with two pretty ladies, NanDJ and Zendra. Uhh..segan pulak rasanya bila jumpa power bloggers ni. After the salam-salam & kiss kiss, Mamasita told us to go get our food. Haa..part yang ni yang best coz the food spread at TV3 cafeteria was ........ (boleh tergolek drooling!!) You all bayangkan lah sendiri, the ikan patin, ikan bakar, gulai perut with nangka (unfortunately, nangka is my enemy # 1....so I stayed away from it) and other mouth watering lauk pauk. There was a good spread of dessert too. Mamasita went for the tapai pulut as I controlled all temptations, reserving myself for that special sweet treat Mamasita had brought with her.

Seronok bercerita round the table as we ate. Not long after that Kak Puteri Kama joined us. Makan lagi dan cerita lagi topics of all sorts. Then it was time to celebrate. Yours truly slipped away from the table with a red box in her hand. Got the cafe lady to arrange candles on the cake and then light it up. I then carried the cake to our table.

You sure you didn't know what us girls were up to eh?

Mula-mula when Kak Puteri saw the cake, she looked so puzzled. Birthday siapa kah today, well that's how I read the expressions on her face. Surpriseeeee....the cake was for you lah Kak Puteri, with lots of lurve from Mamasita (and the rest of us too).We sure got heads turning when we sang that melodious birthday tune.

Apalagi...cake time and it was creamy cheese cake from SR!! Diet out the window please....just indulge, work out and worry later.

It was a good meet today. Unfortunately the few of us (me, DR & Edelweiss) who work had to return to our respective workstations. Rasa tak cukup time to borak-borak tadi.............but it was all worth it. Good lunch with such GREAT company :)

NanaDJ, Zendra & Desert Rose

Orang kuat....Kak Puteri, Mynn Edelweiss & Kak Ezza yang selamba dan cool

Happy faces upon being fed by Mamasita..heh..heh.
Thank you Datin for the lovely lunch.

As promised, here are some pictures from last week's meet with Kak Teh and AG and other fellow bloggers at the Lake Club. Other bloggers like Elviza, Tireless Mom, Puteri Kamaliah, Jaflam have since published their picture collection in various postings. If you haven't seen them yet, here are some of mine. Enjoy the pics folks (note to myself.....I do need to polish my skills in photography).

Cat-in-Sydney, Mamasita & Dato' Sak. Ishhh...Datin, bisik apa tuh?

"Who else wanna take centre stage?" asked Pak Abu..heh..heh :)

Alamak Mamasita...where's that Colgate smile of yours???

Siapa lah punya angkara...sampai we ladies tergelak besar!!!

It has been a week and I'm still smiling. It was a GREAT do. Thank you to all :)

Lake Club "Do"

It’s been a while, yes I know. Sembang at Kay’s is pretty neglected, huh? My umrah stories are so, so behind. So much to tell, but just couldn’t spare the time to do so.

And this posting is a rather short one too.

I’m going under the radar for a few days. My bags are packed and there’s just no point trying to sleep coz my ride to the airport will be at 4.30am. Some might know already that I’ll be off to Ho Chi Minh City with my friend Muni for a few days. Saja je ..nak chill for a couple of days. Will be doing some RT, that’s for sure. Lain-lain acara…uumppp?? Nothing in mind yet. Looks like Muni and I will just decide on what we will be doing once we get to HCMC.

And the other contributing factor to me being “Sleepless in Shah Alam” is the “do” at Lake Club last night. Yesss…it was THE MEETING with Kak Teh and AG!!! What a blast and it was so, so gempaq. And I've never been in a room, with so many power bloggers and the big names in the blog world. I’m pretty sure Kak Puteri Kama, the graceful and charming host will write about our meet in her blog. I have this to say, “Wow!!!! Best…Best..Best!!!” A million thanks to Kak Puteri and Pak Abu for organizing the meet. Food sedap dan lagi seronok when listening to their beautiful voices during the post dinner karaoke session.

To Kak Teh and AG, it was a real honour meeting you both, rasa so on top of the world sangat-sangat!! To the rest who were at Lake Club last night, thank you, thank you for being such great company.

p/s Will post pics of this meet after my return frm HCMC. My new toy si Nikon ni suddenly didn't want to cooperate with me this morning.

Kuatagh81 Get Together

Not many know that I once went to a boarding school. Yes, I DID. But this disarrayed budding teenager, at that time just couldn’t keep herself in the compounds of the prestigious academic body for long. Well, it simply meant that I left, chickened out, fled, vamoose, cabut after the first academic year ended.

Nothing was wrong with the academia there. The unsettledness came very much from within me. And obviously this took a toll on my studies and had caused a lot of unhappiness in my dad. I recall putting a fuss about the whole thing but dad was adamant with his decision. In the end, I consented and I must say that was one of the wisest thing I’ve ever conformed to. Guess fathers know best huh??

I missed my boarding school friends during the early days after my transfer but being in a day school did seem to offer new adventures to this newbie in town. Mana tak nyer, after school I had to rush alongside with the Georgian boys (the KGV boys lahhh….they were huge and good looking too..heh..heh) for a seat on the public bus. Siap panjat ikut tangga belakang lagi. And the usual trick was to throw the school bag into the bus and that would automatically “chop” me the seat. By hook or by crook I had to get onto that first bus home as I had to rush for tuition classes later in the afternoon. Nak makan lagi, nak tido jap (wajib wooo..) and nak cycle to the class lagi. No way I was going to be left behind to take the “bas belakang”.

That was just a teaser bit about the my life story during the five years of my secondary studies in a day school in Seremban. If I recall now how it was back then, well, I just have this to say, “The experience made me what I am today.”

There were ups and downs, of course, and they came in many forms. But the one that almost freaked me out was the expectations of a first born and being an anak cikgu (those days anak-anak cikgu were the talk of town…so and so dah poi England buek medic..etc..etc..) God is GREAT (and must have been the doas of my dad) and Alhamdullilah, I did pretty okay in my SPM exam. Thus, dapat lah naik kapal terbang (a real big deal at that time) and go to the States to further my studies. And the rest is history. You know, I know and no need to cerita so long winded anymore.

So that was a quick blast to the past.

Now enter the Broadband, Internet, social networking era. Facebook, Blogger, Flickr, Picasa and the whole cyber networks come into the picture.

The whole group...one very ceria bunch (pic courtesy Sam's FB)

It must have been during my early days in Facebook that I did a search on that boarding school that I went to some thirty one years ago. I almost fell off my chair when some familiar names began appearing. OMG…OMG!!! Talk about jejak kasih the cyberway.

Dr Norintan & Marini

I did the first move lah kan by requesting to be friends with those names that were familiar to me. One friend led to the other, and as the name says it – social networking, Facebook did most of the connecting. Nasib baik lah, after years of doing the disappearing act, my boarding school friends could still recognize me and were kind enough to accept me into the circle. Thank you guys, this meant a lot to me.

Thus, when the invite to a get together last Monday night came, I prompted a positive response. Never mind what the turn out was going to be like, but I was sure going to make an appearance. The venue selected was a popular Kopitiam in Bangi. Errr….tak familiar lah pulak with the Bangi area. Anyway after checking for directions with colleagues who reside in Bangi, I was pretty much confident I would be able to find the place.

And what happened when we met?? Lots and lots of “ooosss….”, “ahhhhssss….”, “oh my god…..” Biasalah girls with our overwhelming blasts of emotions. The guys pulak…cool je. But one thing for sure we were one very noisy lot. Lucky thing we were not thrown out by the kopitiam folks!!

Che Fuzlina & Batman

“Anak you berapa?”, “You kerja kat mana?”, “Stay kat mana?” were the so familiar exchanges of information going round the table. After 31 years, and upon doing quick homework at flicking through the ole school album earlier that day, I remember most (errr almost, truth be told) of the girls. But the challenge was in establishing the face to the name of the guys. Gosh, I was one embarrassed soul when trying to recall who’s who. But now, since dah kenal, I’m sure I could spot them from a distance…heh..heh.

It seemed like we could talk the whole night but like all good things, it had to come to an end. It was way past midnight when I excused myself. Jauh gak nak drive from Bangi to Shah Alam in the wee hours of the morning. Plus takut juga what if orang di dalam nanti tak mau buka pintu (ni bukan case aci-aci bukak pintu…but ane-ane…please don’t lock me out!!), or worst still “license minum-minum di kopitiam” kena tarik ker…Hahh, yang ni lagi haru!!!

Anyway, thank God none of the above happened. But I did take the wrong exit and that caused me to detour like some 4kms from my actual route. Obviously, it was difficult trying to doze off that night. Culprit?? One, the coffee and two, flashbacks by the masses of the good days in Kuantan.

MRSM Kuantan Batch4 (1977 - 1981) (pic courtesy Sam's FB)

So to all kuatagh81, I am so, so glad we met that night. Moga diberkati silaturrahim yang dijalin and berkekalan sentiasa...InshaAllah.

Farewell Dear Friend

I'm writing this post with a heavy heart. We lost Hj N, a dear jemaah in our Haj group to big C today.

No words could express our shock, sadness and grief when we received the call about his passing this morning. All I could think of was his wife Z, and his three beautiful girls and how they have to be strong to face this test from God Almighty. In the car back from the funeral just now, ABE just has this to say to me, "I'm going to miss him."

We are all going to miss him. Farewell dear friend...

Semoga roh mu dicucuri rahmat dan ditempatkan bersama dengan roh-roh orang yang beriman.

Alfatehah.

A Quiet Celebration

It has been a quiet celebration this year. With the ushering of the new lunar year, the year of the ox, I thought I’d hear the cracking sounds from the burning of the firecrackers by the neighbours’ children. But somehow, there is none. Mr L*m, my front neighbour has been home through out the entire celebration. If in the past years, his house was closed during the holidays, this year, he opted to stay put. When asked by Bibik if he was going anywhere, he said, “Tak da mana mau pigi lorr, duduk di rumah saja.”

Same goes with Uncle Ch*rl*s my back neighbour. They too have not gone out of town, unlike the previous years. Funny, I thought to myself, as they would normally be away on the first day. Well, that was in the past, guess the arrangements have changed and perhaps now, they no longer need to travel far to visit their families.

Mr L*m and Uncle Ch*rl*s are the two Chinese families in my housing area, an area where it’s predominantly populated by Malays. There used to be an Indian family right opposite my house, but they have moved many years ago. I guess being the minority group is not easy, but being the friendly and good natured lot that they are, I see them blending in pretty well with the rest of us. As I leave for work, I always “bump” into Mr L*m when he performs the morning prayers. Always smiling he would tegur me and say, “Pigi kerja ka?” I’d say yes and wave him good bye.

On the contrary, I seldom meet Uncle Ch*rl*s. He fenced his house area with a high wall some years back, hence blocking the view of his house. When we asked why he erected the wall, he said that he segan to us, who’d have the excellent view of his back yard which at times was messy. The feeling was mutual as our backyards were not tip top either. But I am always able to have a good glimpse of his house. All I need to do is just go to Farah’s room, and I could see everything, even his fish pond. Bibik has a contrasting story to tell, of course. She said that Uncle Ch*rl*s’ “aunty” is very garang and they always have violent exchange of words. For whatever his reasons are, the wall has served its purpose and not a decibel of sound is now heard from his home.

However just a few days before new year, Uncle Ch*rl*s gave Bibik some ikan keli. He said it was from his pond. Bibik made ikan keli goreng cili padi that day and the kelis were yummylicious!! Ada budi ada balas kan, so yesterday a pot of briyani was sent over to Uncle Ch*rl*s at lunch time. Bibik said he was so happy hingga tak terkata!!

The year of the Ox has just rolled in. Much has been said about this animal, the ox (incidently ABE was born in the ox year!! I really gotta go check what is said about these "ox people"). My hopes in the Ox year?? Of course, for all good things and prosperity to come our way, and may we be strong willed and determined to face all the on coming challenges. I also wish for good health and success at fostering better and stronger relationships.
