Back to School

It was at the third hair salon that I finally managed to walk in and secure a seat without having to queue. The first two salons had like five people in front of us and the waiting time was like more than 20 minutes. That was the scene this evening when I took Nissa for her hair cut.

I guess most school going kids' moms like me are doing that same last minute "snip snip thing" before kids start school again tomorrow. Nissa, my youngest will be in year three next year. Unlike year 1 & 2, when she was in the afternoon session and had more time to get ready for school, year 3 will have her waking up early and all ready for the her school pick up at seven in the morning.

Sorry Babe, your pony tail and fringe have to go!!

Happy back to school kids....Sleep tight tonight coz new adventures and excitement await you in this new schooling year :)

Kak Kay..pagi tadi pun my hubby bawak my sons pegi potong rambut! Depan rumah je so no prob. My eldest is the same age as your youngest..but he's still in afternoon session while my no. 2 will be in Year 1, sekolah pagi. Keluar masuk la I kali ni sebab decided not to use the makcik van. The school's not that far..kalau budak2 ni besar sikit boleh naik basikal kot :)

Hey Kay, my mommy once told me; If u go to a barber or hairdresser, make SURE u chose the old with the worst haircut coz they cut each others'hair..hahaha, true or not?

Your little girl seems the very manja2 mischievous type; always get her way, no?

Cheers,
Tommy

Dear SOHO Mama,

Lucky you that your children's school is close by. Nissa's school is close too, but traffic is busy. I have no choice but have her take the bus. Klau lambat, drop off in the morning at times father dia yg kena buat :)

Kak Ezza,

Nissa ni belum sampai seru nak pakai tudung ke sekolah. Tu pun satu hal lagi...dulu masa tahun satu ala-ala nak try lah pakai tudung. Petang balik, tudung tah kemana!! So now I told her, wear tudung when you are ready. Stess kan...budak-budak ni!

Dear Cat-in-Sydney,

No my dear, it was Nissa's hair that I had to go snip, snip. Else, Mommy will have to wake up extra early and tok-cang her hair. Ayooo...I can't possibly be losing my beauty sleep, can I??

Ohh...Angie...you'll always look stunning, with out without the touch of the hairdresser :)

Dear Mamasita,

Ha lah...itu lah budak nakal ku!! Used to have old Bibik fussing over her. The new one B-O-L-A-Y-A-N her. Poor thing.

Dear Hazlin,

Had it my way, it would be shorter than what she has now. But kesian gak bila tgk rambut tu kena snip off. She has kept it for a while.

Ohh..you too had that Lady D's hairdo?? So did I, and in fact almost every girl in school wanted to look like her kan...Those were the days:)

Ayooo...Mr Tommy ahh...you know ah when I was a lil girl growing up in Seremban, a few times the barber actually cut my hair!! When I followed my dad for his haircut and when that Indian guy said, "Adekkk mau potong rambut kaaa???" I'd quickly jump on the chair. Guess how my hair turned out?? Err...sorry lah..can't recall. Selective amnesia...LOL (read: teruk & huduh) But it's just hair, thank God it grew back!!

Aahh Kay, the good old Indian barber, oh yes they r the best! I remembered following my dad to his regular Mr Albert who would not just give him a haircut, he’ll trim his moustache, beard, nostril hair & even clean the wax out from his ears…yyeeewwww..

He’ll shave the edges/sideburns with a butterfly blade sharpened on a leather strap. He’ll then finish off with a head/scalp massage, twist & clicked your neck with his deft twist and fingers chopped massage to your shoulder too. His coup de grace would be to cover his face with a hot face towel, thereafter slapped on his face with some ‘Old Spice’ aftershave.

Woww how good was that!!! Dad always look forward to his trips to Albert’s…hahaha,

Thanks for the memories, what a shame it’d become a lost art!

Dear TommyYF,

Those barbers were the BEST!! Do you recall their parlor having that spinning red, white and blue cylindrical light signage just out their door? I thought that was the most "cool" thing I ever saw that time. I always stood next to it, watching it spin. I guess that could probly be the reason why my astigmatism level went beyond control (and my brains tarak betol jugak...coz too much of watching that thing spin!! LOL)
