Home Grown

His first attempt at growing the banana plant in our backyard failed miserably. The baby plant dried up and died in a matter of days. Why that happened got ABE wondering to himself. He had planted the same baby plants at both my mom's and his mother's houses and they grew unperturbed.

ABE's home grown pisang tanduk

I guess patience and perseverance paid off and last week both Bibik and ABE harvested the fruits from this maiden pisang tanduk tree. Check out the fruit....

We've been having goreng pisang for the past two days. Infact, Bibik had even made kerepek pisang from the fruit. She said one big fruit was enough to make a container full of kerepek. I've asked Bibik to give away some of the fruits to our neighbours.

Ahhh...during these rainy afternoons, nothing would be more mouth watering than goreng pisang panas and coffee.

kay, congratulations! How satisfying it is to be able to taste and enjoy the fruit of your labour!
When we moved to our present house, I was very ambitious and grew all sorts - from tomatoes potatoes and sweet corn - but i dont have that green finger - everything died on me! Now, the children are giving it another go - must wait for spring. Now I have a cutting of passion fruit growing in our bathroom.

Kak Teh,

Me no green finger lah. Plants would die on me too. ABE is the one who loves to be in the garden. I just enjoy the harvest :)

Before the pisang tanduk was his mangoes. Sampai sakit perut dok makan jeruk!!

Passion fruit..ummppp...nice.

Sedapnya goreng pisang and kopi panas! I can just feel the kerangupan pisang.. Yummy!

Wow..tak sangka you all ni ada green fingers, huh? I'm terrible at planting things. In my garden here, bunga pun susah nak tumbuh! I keep asking my gardener, mana bunganya? Benih selalu nak beli, fertiliser pun selalu jugak nak beli. Hasil nya tak pernah kelihatan! I wish my garden blooms well like my neighbour's. I see her garden very clearly everytime I plonk myself in front of the PC. Jeles..jeles..

Mesti sedap pekena goreng pisang panas. Kalau dapat pisang raja, lagi lah sedap!

Teringat masa dulu when my eldest was about 3 years old, we used to have pokok tanduk at the back of the house. My daughter was scared of that pisang, dia panggil "Pisang monster" sebab besar sangat!

Komen Pak Malim kucing ray yg alim.

Wah!

Dear Kay

ABE has great green fingers. So tahu lah nak buat apa bila retire nanti. Love the mangos that you gave us. Rasa tak puas. Make sure you remember us bila they harvest again.

Sadly Kay, I will never experience hasil tanaman sendiri because both Pak Abu and I do not have that proverbial green finger. Once, many years ago, a friend's mother sent me, all the way from kota baru, 12 pink & white rose saplings from her extremely abundant (and much prized) rose bush. I bela those cuts mcm bela anak..tapi semua kiok jugak :(

Tanam pokok buah belakang rumah - mati. tanam pokok bunga depan rumah - mati. simpan potted plants dalam rumah - mati. Golo de' eh..

Ms Hart,

You and I same lah, kerepek pisang while watching tv, I bet? Krup, krap, krup, krap...

Iyah...nanti di minta Bibik buat kan kerepek nya yah :)

Tai tai,

ABE is the one who is good. I guess being in the garden gives him that bond between man and earth. Yang I tau makan je lahhh...

We are now waiting eagerly for his dragon fruit. Nissa calls her dad, the new age farmer..whatever that means lah.

Queen,

Yes, it can be rather scary looking at those huge fruits on the tree. Imagine this, one cold rainy night, pokok tu goyang-goyang je...ee, goose bumps weh!!

Goreng pisang & coffee yes. But have you heard that some people even cicah the goreng pisang with sambal belacan. I have never tried it though.

TM,

Hey u know, this morning Bibik patahkan setangkai rambutan lak. She said got some green fruits on the tree and in a few weeks they will ripe.

And me...I tak tau pun kat mana pokok rambutan tu!!! So teruk one lah me.

Kak Puteri,

I'm ok with gardening and planting stuffs. Can plant but very LAZY to jaga. At times, water the plant pun idak. Dah lah kering je pokok ABE tu. Thank god these days, banyak hujan.

Sad juga iyer...kalu semua yang di plant tu mati. Simpan dried flowers je lah Kak Puteri., cantik gak. Bila nak Raya, no need to go lagi jln TAR nak beli bunga :)
